La Casa de Estudillo, Old Town, San Diego

Earlier this week we were in San Diego, a business trip for my husband, but we managed to find time to explore Old Town for a few hours before meeting friends for dinner in The Old Town Cafe.

I took these pictures at La Casa De Estudillo, situated in the northern section of Old Town, an old adobe home built in 1827, and restored in 1910. Many ghost sightings have been documented at this historic site, you can google it and read the incidents. Interesting stuff.

Although I haven't had the pleasure of seeing any of the spirits, or felt their presence, what I do feel, whenever I wander the property (I have made it a point to visit most times we are in the city), is a wonderful calm and sense of peace...at the beauty and the simplicity of those long ago times. I easily imagine a family living & working in the various rooms, and playing in the courtyard. The casa is a U shaped home with all rooms facing an inner courtyard. Rod himself said to me as we walked from room to room, that he could easily live there.

I plan on putting in a vegetable garden this summer, I have a spot all picked out, and was considering "raised beds". After seeing these at the Casa, I suggested something very similar, simplicity in itself, to my husband. Hopefully he'll find the time to begin work on them soon, I have already purchased some assorted tomato plants!
