More Monteray!

I caught Rod gazing out into the harbor... daydreaming...probably of our sailboat back home. One day, down the road, I expect to be sailing Osoyoos Lake on it again...maybe even the San Juans?

I love Monteray! But then I love anyplace near water, I gravitate to it instinctively, must be biological....the first living things to walk on land were fish I believe, maybe therein lies my ancestry. Anyways, the sights, the smells, it's like coming home.

The sea pronounces something, over and over, in a hoarse whisper; I cannot quite make it out. ~Annie Dillard

San Miguel, California ~ rod took me to visit this wonderful old mission, founded on July 25, 1797 by Father Fermin Lasuen, Presidente of the California Missions Chain. It was named for Saint Michael the Arcangel, & was apparently the 16th mission founded in the 21 mission chain in Alta California.

The mission's appearance is much the same as it was when founded. The inside of the mission has never been repainted. The pictures and the colors are the originals that were created and painted by Indian artesans under the direction of Esteban Munras. Today it is still a parish church
