CARLSBAD BEACH, CA

Carlsbad is described as a "Village by the Sea", it is one of those resort hotspots in the summer that draws millions of tourists....but it is devine!

Oodles of big and small cafes, miles and miles of beach, surfers, beachcombers, and LOTS of very athletic, energetic people everywhere! Riding bikes, jogging, surfing, whereever you turn, watch out!

My 2 full days here were spent mostly on this beach, I'm always looking for beach glass and unusual shells or stones the tides leave behind. I kicked back awhile on this bench, a perfect vantage point (midway down the stairs to the beach) finishing off my book by Margaret Attwood, The Year of the Flood. Another one of those "don't want it to end!!!" novels.

This time of year is truly the best time if one enjoys vast empty beaches as far as the eye can see, with the only sounds that of the surf and the gulls. The temperatures are perfect (low 80's), hotels are plentiful and inexpensive (well compared to peak season)...schools are still in session, vacationers are still just in the "planning" stages of this summers vaca.

I'm quite sure, if you click twice to super enlarge these pix, you'll actually hear the surf for yourself!

Enjoy when you can, and endure when you must. ~Johann

Mission Beach, San Diego

While Rod worked today I enjoyed a perfect summer day....slept in till after 9 am, relaxed with coffee out on our hotel rooms private patio (The Bahia), then meandered over to the beach to stroll Mission Beach's endless shoreline.

Oh perfect day! The surfers were surfing, tourists sunbathing, little children building sandcastles in the sand (well, there arent any in these pictures, but trust me, they WERE out there...
....and me, well I was searching each incoming wave for a new and special shell to add to my collection.

Every time the waves rolled in these little guys would rush up to dry land, then as the waves receded they'd rush, all together, team effort, back down with it, gobbling up what it might have left in its wake, then do a quick turnabout and ruch back up to dry land as the next waves rolled in...and on and on and on it went...pretty cute to watch.
I was trying to daydream, but my mind kept wandering. ~Steven Wright

BEST MOTHERS DAY PRESENT EVER!

DAUGHTRY IN CONCERT! My son Corey asked his dad to get the tickets for him and to surprise me with them. How cool is that! I was SO surprised, and excited! Our family has all liked Chris Daughtry's music ever since he was on American Idol, and I'd heard a while back he was coming to Bakersfield.

So last tuesday nite we took in the concert at Rabobank Arena, and it was great fun! Been a while since we've been to a Rock concert, forgot how much fun they are! Cavo, followed by Lifehouse, opened the show, by the time Daughtry came out we were all pretty stoked and the crowd went wild. Awesome nite!

Got the t-shirt too! LOL
